The Folklorist was originally created by Alannagh Cooke in 2021.

Each episode tells the tale of a place through its lore, mysteries and landscapes. The world is filled with unimaginable stories, and The Folklorist is committed to finding and sharing them with its listeners. With original music and meticulous research, every episode is unique.

But the podcast also looks for answers within the tales. Folklore has existed since humans were able to communicate, and often the most interesting stories, are the unexplainable.

Where do these stories originate from, and could there be truths buried beneath? The Folklorist aims to find out.

A podcast taking you to corners of the Earth you never knew existed.

Alannagh Cooke. A young white woman with brunette hair, is standing in the centre of a woodland path and smiling at the camera over her left shoulder.

Alannagh was born and raised in Nottingham, UK and has been telling stories for as long as she can remember.

Growing up in such close proximity to some of the most famous folklore in the world clearly had an impact. From early visits to Sherwood Forest and Major Oak, to pleading with parents for yet another trip to the Viking Museum in York. History and myths have driven Alannagh’s writing for years, and folklore is the perfect combination.

As well as writing and producing The Folklorist, Alannagh is a theatre-maker and currently writing their first novel. They are also known for their drag act, Bjorn the ViKing.

Alannagh has toured internationally with various theatre productions, and worked for companies such as Les Enfants Terribles, Zoo Co, and spent a year as part of Michelle Terry’s ensemble at Shakespeare’s Globe in London.
